Restoration for Etz Hayim Synagogue in Izmir started

One of the oldest Jewish sanctuaries in Turkey, the Etz Hayim Synagogue in Izmir’s Old Town-Kemeralti district dated back to 15th century will recover by the beginning of 2021 as an international restoration project initialized.

The works have taken a start right after a marathon of consultations that took place in Izmir between the Turkish and Israeli synagogue restoration experts in various fields.

Full restoration of the synagogue that dates back from Byzantine period in Anatolia including, walls,roof, wall paintings, floor works will be taken care of as an expression of various stages of the history of the synagogue. The restoration is expected to end by January 2021.
